Why companies need to carry out regular fire safety training …
- 28 workplace fire deaths annually
- 1700 fire related injuries annually
- 40,000 + accidental workplace fires annually
- £1.1 billion insurance pay-out annually
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 replaced all previous Fire Legislation in the UK. Every UK business needs to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment and act upon its findings to ensure the life safety of relevant persons, property safety and business continuity. It is likely that your fire risk assessment will determine that a number of staff will need fire safety training. Government Guidelines suggest that training should be repeated as necessary, usually once or twice a year, so that employees remain familiar with the fire precautions in your workplace. Training should include practical exercises, e.g. fire drills, and checking peoples understanding of the emergency plan. All employees who have a supervisory role in the event of a fire (heads of department, fire wardens and marshalls), should receive additional training
